Are stairlifts exempt from sales tax?
Provided you get a valid prescription from your doctor or healthcare professional, confirming that your stairlift is for your own needs and will be of benefit to your health or mobility, then you will not have to pay local sales tax on your new stairlift.
Will Medicare help with funding my new stairlift?
Unfortunately Medicare does not currently consider stairlifts to be a medial necessity and therefore they are not covered. There are however many options available that may help you with your purchase, such as renting, reconditioned lifts or low interest finance facilities. There are various other organizations that may be able to give help or advice, such as the Veteran’s Association, the American Legion or AARP.
