ISO 14001:2004 environmental management
What does the ISO 14001:2004 certificate involve?
The environment plays an important role at Handicare. We are therefore the first stairlift manufacturer in the sector to achieve ISO 14001:2004 environmental management certification.
Throughout the entire organisation, we recognise that climate change can have long-term implications for our operational management. Our company model plays an important role in guaranteeing an ideal mix of energy sources used, whilst at the same time constantly making our production process more energy-efficient.
How is energy consumption being reduced?
Our operational management is aimed at actively reducing energy consumption throughout the organisation. The construction of our head offices and factory in Heerhugowaard included a range of measures aimed at achieving an emission-neutral site. For example, the premises utilise residual heat to heat the offices and factory. Waste is also segregated diligently. Environmentally-friendly materials are used in production and a range of measures are used to minimise waste.
Our efforts have earned us ISO 14001:2004 certification. We are audited once a year to check that we continue to meet all the criteria, before the certificate is renewed. We have passed the test every time so far!
Notable results achieved by Handicare's environmental management system include:
In production
- 90% reduction in the use of chemicals
- 75% reduction in the use of water
- 20% reduction in the use of gas.
