What do I need to consider when looking for a stairlift?

A wide range of factors need to be taken into account when looking for a stairlift. Here are a few of them.

• Are your stairs straight or curved?

Not every stairlift is suited to every stair type, so it is important to know whether your stairs are a straight run or if they have corners and curves. If you have straight stairs, we offer you a choice of four different stairlifts. If you have curved stairs, again we offer you a choice of four different options.

Which are the important factors in your situation?

You may have certain physical limitations which make it more difficult to find the stairlift that is right for you. For example, if you suffer from hip or knee problems, a perch seat may be the best option for you as this requires less bending at the hip or knee to use it.

There may be other important considerations in relation to seat comfort. By spending a few minutes thinking about this, you will soon have a list of factors you consider important. Make sure you show the list to your adviser so he or she can give you the best possible advice.

• Do you know someone who has a stairlift or who has used one before?

Ask people about their personal experiences. People who have been using a stairlift for any length of time will have a wealth of experience and can offer great advice when it comes to what to consider when buying one. The experience of others can also give a fresh perspective on things.

• Does the stairlift come from a reputable company?

Stairlifts are supplied by various companies. Make sure that the company you choose is experienced and familiar with its product.
